Lassa fever3 confirmed, 2 suspected cases of disease in Kano

Dr Kabir Getso, Kano state commissioner for health has confirmed that the state has 3 verified cases of Lassa fever patients and 2 suspected cases in the state.

Dr Kabir Getso, Kano state commissioner for health has confirmed that the state has 3 verified cases of Lassa fever patients and 2 suspected cases in the state.

Getso stated that 2 of the cases were recorded in in Garun-Malam Local Government Area of the state, while the third case was recorded in Dawakin Kudu local government, Kano.

He stated that the 3 verified Lassa fever cases have either completed their 21 days follow up or tested negative and that the 2 suspected cases are currently in the isolation and treatment center, Yar’gaya hospital.
He added that to overcome Lassa fever, a rapid response team, an emergency operation centre is required, and also a state committee on the Control of Lassa fever.

The measures include the setting up of rapid response team, establishment of the Lassa fever Emergency Operation Centre and the setting up of the State Committee on the Control of Lassa fever,” Gasau said.
Lassa fever is a viral disease that is caused by infected rats in West Africa.
